On Site Cleaning

Question:

How often should carpets be steam cleaned?

Answer:

The week before they start looking dirty!  But seriously, usually every 18 months or so.

Question:

Is steam cleaning the best way to have them cleaned?

Answer:

Truthfully… all the methods are roughly the same, they’re all just surface cleaners.  Steam usually does a better job…unless the tech leaves the carpets too wet (in a hurry).

A lot of people are going to hard surface floors and area rugs.  Makes sense!   Only  Area rugs can be throughly cleaned (submerged in a rug bath) which is the only way to have clean floors!

Remember… there’s no such thing as ”DEEP CLEANING…it’s just a marketing slogan.

Question:

What, in your opinion are the 2 most ridiculous finishes in a home?

Answer:

Hands down . . .POP CORN CEILINGS and WALL to WALL CARPET !!!

Fine Area Rugs

Question:

Can area rugs be steam cleaned?

Answer:

It really depends… did you buy it at Costco for $219 . . . or did you buy it at Sarkisians for $15,000?

The Costco rug should be steam cleaned (both sides) every year or two and will cost you about $1.00 per square foot.

The rug you purchased at Sarkisians  should be hand washed and will cost you about $5.25  a square foot and will take a couple of weeks .

Example:  Would you put used oil from Jiffy Lube in your classic Rolls Royce?   I rest my case…

Upholstery Cleaning

Question:

Can all fabrics be cleaned?  What’s the difference between wet and dry cleaning?

Answer:

Usually any fabric can be cleaned unless it is in poor condition.

”Wet cleaning” uses surfactants (soap) to lift the soiling.  “Dry Cleaning” as specified by the manufacturer,  uses solvents to remove the soiling.  When in doubt…use the dry method.   It’s safe for both “wet” and “dry” cleanable fabrics.

Question:

How can I tell which method my sofa requires?

Answer:

There is a “W” for wet cleanables and a “S” for dry cleanables.   Hopefully, the tag will still be attached to the bottom of the piece of furniture. (an experienced technician can perform a test for you)

Question:

What does upholstery cleaning cost?

Answer:

$1.50 per inch of width.  For example, if the loveseat is 50 inches wide…it would cost $75.00 (50 x $1.50)
